Redesign

Positive Pump

Brief

A pump manufacturer wanted us to redesign their diaphragm pump for aesthetics.

Thinking

Can we reduce the number of parts without affecting function or performance? How might the new design help assembly and disassembly, reduce complexity, and enhance the look and performance?

Prototype

Solution

We did a tear down of their existing pump and found 23 different sub-parts, each with specific hardware. We integrated four parts into the housing, thereby reducing the number of parts, corresponding hardware, time required for assembly, and complexity in storage. Now that makes a stylish pump!
